After an exciting finale in Palm Springs, California, the PGA Tour will remain in the state for the 2023 Farmers Insurance Open. Just a two-hour drive from the Coachella Valley, the Rockies of La Jolla will welcome the world’s best in what should be a short week for the competitors. The tournament got underway on Wednesday and will continue through Saturday as the PGA Tour once again moves on to the Farmers Insurance Open to allow the NFL playoffs to take center stage on Sunday.
A revised schedule may be about the only thing that could trip world No. 3 Jon Rahm right now. Arriving fresh off the back of two consecutive wins in San Diego – and four of his last six matches around the world – the Spaniard holds the field in high esteem. Torrey Pines was not only the site of his first career PGA Tour win in 2017 and the first major championship of his career in 2021, but the surrounding area where Rahm proposed to his wife and celebrated their wedding (in the United States).
The hottest player in the world returning to the comfort of Torrey Pines, Rahm aims to become the first player since Tiger Woods in 2008 to start his year with three consecutive wins. Looking to stand in the way of accomplishing such a feat are San Diego native Xander Schauffele, along with fellow Californians Colin Morikawa and Max Homma, as well as Tony Finau, Justin Thomas and Will Zalatoris.
