Golf equipment has evolved and become more advanced in recent years. In particular, modern technology has allowed clubs to get shorter and golfers to hit the ball farther than ever before. Joined by former PGA Tour golfer Tom Watson on Wednesday CBS Sports at the 2023 PGA Show Join us to discuss how far technology has come in terms of sports – and why it’s positive.

“It’s been great for the game because it’s made it easier to play,” Watson said. “Girth-weighted clubs, metal heads, and lightweight shafts versus the old dynamic shafts. Our drivers we used back in those days were about 14 ounces. Now, drivers today are in the upper 11-ounce range. You can get it faster.” Can swing and hit far.

“Everybody wants to hit the ball farther, right? Further and faster. Every manufacturer wants you to hit it faster, and there’s an element of truth in that. Technology has really made it easier for the golfer to play.” I have helped.”

Watson announced his retirement from the sport in 2019 after winning eight major championships during his illustrious career. While he no longer plays golf professionally, Watson told CBS Sports Headquarters that he still enjoys hitting the links.

“I still love playing the game. I’m a golfer. I still wake up and I’m a golfer,” he said. “Early in my career, I gave my all to the game of golf and tried to do the best I could. It still doesn’t leave me. I enjoy hitting shot. It doesn’t happen more than once a month. Going out to practice and hitting shot after shot, I enjoy it.”
