The Shafali Verma-led side scripted history by winning the maiden ICC Women’s Under-19 T20 World Cup title, defeating England by seven wickets on Sunday. India dominated the proceedings from the start and as soon as Soumya Tiwary scored the winning runs, celebrations broke out on the Indian side. The players reached the ground carrying the national flag and were joined by the support staff who also took part in the celebrations. Indian javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra was also present during the summit clash, and he joined the rest of the crowd in praising the champion.

Chasing a modest total of 69, Shafali Verma hit a four and a six before being dismissed by Hannah Baker. However, India never looked in trouble as Soumya Tiwary and Gongadi Trisha both scored 24 runs to take their side to a comfortable victory. Three English bowlers took one wicket each, but it was all in vain as the batsmen were unable to mount a competitive total.

India’s bowling attack, led by pacer Tita Sadhu and leg-spinner Parshvi Chopra, produced a stellar performance to bowl out England for 68 in the inaugural ICC Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup final here on Sunday.

While Sadhu showed that the Indian women’s fast bowling is in safe hands after Jhulan Goswami’s impressive figures of 4-0-6-2, Chopra also showed enough of her skills as she took two wickets for 13 runs.

Archana Devi also took 2/17 while Mannat Kashyap (1/13), Shefali Verma (1/16) and Sonam Yadav (1/3) took one wicket each.
