The riders head to Hamme in the north of Belgium for round six of the X2O Trophy.
The riders prepared for a week to test themselves in the lead up to the World Championships in Hoogerheide, with winners Fame van Ampel and Wout van Aert coming off with good points in the Jumbo-Wisma doubleheader.
In the women’s race, Van Ampel dominated the field, breaking solo on the first lap and spending the entire ‘cross alone in front, eventually winning by a margin of 1:15.
Van Ampel’s nearest rival, Puck Peeters (Alpecin–Dessinink), was not present, but Shireen van Aarooj (Balois Trek Lions) took second place and Pieterse’s teammate Celine del Carmen Alvarado finished third.
Van Ampel said after the race, “The feeling wasn’t ‘super super’, but it was good enough to win.”
“It was not intended to lead immediately. I was quite tired from the World Cup in Spain, but luckily I managed to win here.”
“I’ve already achieved all my goals. A lot has happened to me. You have to be there every week anyway. Luckily I have the right people around. But yeah, it won’t be obvious. Next week a different day But I will do everything I can to be out there again. It will be a normal week of training as usual, I will approach it like any other competition. The preparation shouldn’t be too different.
“After the World Championships, my season is over. That’s why I don’t participate in other competitions for the X2O Trophy. This is what I need some rest after the World Championships.

It was a similar story among men as well. In the absence of Mathieu van der Poel, Van Aart went into the lap leaving the trio of Ellie Iserbeet, Michael Vanthorenhout (both Pauwels Sauzen Bingol)., and Pim Rönhaar (Baloise Trek Lions) in pursuit.
Van Aert won comfortably with Iserbeet in second, Vanthorenhout in third and Ronhaar in fourth.
Van Aert said after the race, “The form was really good today.” “I could distance myself from the rest in the beginning which really made me run a tough race alone for long periods of time. It was definitely worth it, it was a good test and a tough race.
Van der Poel and Pieters, absent world title contenders, will both feature in Sunday’s World Cup round.
