Marijan van den Berg (EF Education-EasyPost) bested some top sprinters to claim her first pro victory at the Trofeo Port d’Alcudia.
Ethan Vernon (Soudal Quick-Step) and Biniam Girmay (Intermarche–Circus–Vanti), who later complained about the plentiful corners in the finale, could do nothing but watch as the pair battled for the other podium places .
Van den Berg surfed the sprint trains of the other teams in the final meters of the race and put himself in the lead going into the final corner. With slippery conditions, the Dutchman made sure to put himself at the front of the peloton on the final turn, which came just meters before the finish, allowing him plenty of momentum in his drive to the line.
Nils Pollitt of Bora-Hansgrohe tried to trouble the sprinters with a solo attack inside the final 20 km, but the rear had too much firepower, and he was reeled back with seven kilometers to go.

Rui Costa wins Trofeo Calvia
Rui Costa took his first win for his new team, Intermarche–Circus–Vanti, at the Trofeo Calvia.
The Portuguese rider won the opening race of the Mallorca Challenge, holding off Soudal-Quick Step’s Louis Verweke with Ben Healy (EF Education-EasyPost) third.
The three riders were part of an early breakaway of 10 that began to split with around 55 km to go. Vervaeke went solo from a group of four riders with 16 km to go, only to be caught later by Healy and Costa.
A tight chase by Julian Alaphilippe (Soudal Quick-Step) saw all three almost win from the front, but they remained mere meters away with Costa winning.
After winning the race last year with a great solo effort, Brandon McNulty didn’t quite make it after crashing on the smooth roads. The team later confirmed that he had survived a serious injury and would race again later this week.
