england lions December 8 for 413 and 8 for 164 (Robinson 39) SL President’s XI 355 for 9 December (Madushka 150, Udara 93, Tongue 3-22) by 222 runs

Sri Lanka President’s XI responded strongly with Nishan Madushka scoring 150 on the second day of their warm-up match against England Lions in Colombo. Madushka went close to a run a ball before being retired, while wicketkeeper Lahiru Udara hit 93 off 85 balls to avenge some of the Lions’ aggression on the first day.

Sri Lanka President’s XI eventually declared 58 runs behind but when the Lions batted again, they made deep inroads. The visitors, who scored at 6.16 per over in their first innings, were 63 for 4 in the second, with a 25-ball 39, before a counterattacking stand between Ollie Robinson and Liam Patterson-White.

The Lions eventually closed on 164 for 8, 222 ahead from the final day, with Jack Haynes and Josh Bohannon – who both made fifties in the first innings – at the crease.

The day began with Madushka joining him at the crease and the pair shared a 170-run partnership in 24 overs. Jack Carson removed Udara and got a second breakthrough for Patterson-White, before Madushka retired to leave the SL President’s XI at 328 for 5. Josh Tong took three wickets in the space of four overs, ending with decent figures of 3. for 22.

Lions captain Haseeb Hameed fell cheaply for the second time in the match, and Alex Lees added 27 runs from 22 balls in his first innings before retiring. Tom Haines and Lyndon James were both bowled by Sahan Aratchez, while Nimesh Vimukti also took two wickets as the Lions again scored at a rate of 5.29 with wickets falling.
