Egan Bernal celebrates second chance one year after crash
Egan Bernal has marked the one-year anniversary since he suffered a horrific training accident that nearly ended his career.
Bernal collided with the back of a bus during a training ride in his native Colombia, suffering multiple injuries, including fractures to the spine, femur and knee cap.
The 26-year-old, who returned to racing at last year’s Tour of Denmark, is currently racing at the Vuelta a San Juan. He posted an update on his social media, marking the anniversary of the incident and celebrating his second chance at life.
“After one year God gave me a second chance. I am still here motivated, eager to be the best and enjoying every moment. “But most of all grateful for life and the people who made it possible.”
Brandon McNulty ruled out for start of season
Brandon McNulty (UAE Team Emirates) crashed out of his season debut at the Trofeo Calvia in Mallorca Challenge on Wednesday.
McNulty had won there last year, but team officials confirmed he was dead with about 1 hour left to go in the race.
“Unfortunately Brandon McNulty has crashed. No serious injuries, but he will not be continuing today.”
Because the five-day Mallorca Challenge is not considered a stage race, he will be able to race Thursday’s Trofeo Port d’Alcudia or other legs this weekend if he is up for it.

With new backer LifePlus on board, the team is able to go full force and has announced its new line-up for the 2023 season. Just five of its original 2023 team are following through with financial issues — and only two from its 2022 roster — with Eluned King, and April Tessy staying on the board from last year and Ella Harris, Ella Wylie, and Babette Van Der Wolf only three of the team’s initial signings are still set to join.
Also joining the team are Tiffany Lawrence, Maddie Leach, Masha Novolodskaya, Kate Richardson, Kaja Raz, Karin Soderqvist and Margaux Vigee.
Along with confirming its roster for this season, the team confirmed that it has financial backing until 2024.
“We have assembled a young but talented team, determined to take the next step in their development. Having gained the automatic Women’s World Tour invitation due to our spectacular 2022 season, we can focus on the race calendar Which is ahead of us,” said team manager Tom Varney.
